(AGENPARL) - Roma, 21 feb - La riduzione della dotazione finanziaria non ha determinato un abbassamento del livello dell'assistenza consolare fornita ai detenuti italiani all'estero. E' questa la risposta del Sottosegretario di Stato per gli affari esteri, Alfredo Mantica, all'interrogazione dell'on Zacchera (Pdl) che chiedeva di alleviare le conseguenze negative dei tagli imposti dalla legge di stabilità sull'assistenza degli italiani detenuti all'estero.

Mantica recalls that, under the protection and consular assistance, that assistance may be provided by a diplomatic or consular representation in favor of a fellow prisoner in a foreign country, are consular visits, the advice of a legal , and the cultivation of contacts with relatives in Italy, and the provision of medical care, medicines, foods, books, newspapers and any gifts ; the provision of subsidies which may vary depending on the exigent circumstances and the specific individual needs, the collaboration with competent authorities for transfer to Italy, where the fellow is held in member countries with the Strasbourg Convention on the Transfer of prisoners or ad hoc bilateral agreements; 's intervention in particular cases to support requests for pardon on humanitarian grounds. Finally, note that a consular office can not intervene in behalf of his compatriot. If the place does not have sufficient funds, in exceptional cases, request the Ministry of additional financing to meet the specific needs of assistance to fellow inmates in his own constituency.
